Why HB1904? Because we are committed to supporting our underserved, marginalized, and underprivileged communities. I personally faced a lack of care when I was a pregnant teenager; despite my efforts with prenatal care, my baby did not survive. I needed doctors who cared about my brown baby being born alive, but that didn't happen. Many young women have experienced and continue to face similar challenges. The infant mortality rate is a crucial indicator of a society's overall health. In Virginia, there are notable disparities in infant mortality rates among different racial and ethnic groups. According to the March of Dimes, the infant mortality rate for Black infants is higher compared to White infants. This disparity underscores the ongoing impact of systemic racism and inequality in healthcare access and outcomes. Let's take action! Let's vote YES to HB1904 today!
We need your help as noted by the Virginia Interfaith Center who we support their vision reports that the "lack of maternity care in rural areas in Virginia is a problem. According to the March of Dimes Maternity Care Deserts Report, 30.8% of Virginia counties are considered Maternity Care Deserts. The providers mentioned in this bill are professionally responsible for consultation, collaboration, and referral to specialized care including intensive newborn care delivered by a pediatric specialist when indicated and provide nursery care in many states. Virginia must pass HB1904 to help keep rural labor and delivery units open by permitting additional qualified providers to provide nursery care".
Act quickly, don't delay; you can save a life, and together as a community, we can help save lives and sustain the movement towards better care for our communities and young women.
Please lend your support today.
