Maternal fetal medicine plays a crucial role in addressing the unique health challenges faced by Black and Brown communities. Research indicates that black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than white women. This disparity is rooted in systemic issues, including access to quality healthcare, socioeconomic factors, and the impact of structural racism. I lost four children due to maternal fetal not mattering, I am part of that ME- TOO movement to help and to make a difference! Here I am to STAY!
Although we have a lot of work to do, we at CHW Liberation Consulting and many of our community-based organizations also play a significant role by advocating for better care and sharing resources like this for black and brown mothers, often pioneering models of care beyond the hospital settings. These efforts especially provided by Community Health Workers and all health care workers who truly care combined with the enhanced anti-bias trainings needed for all physicians, can help reduce the risks associated with pregnancy and childbirth in our communities.
